Ref Checkpoint is a Prevention & Sexual Health Centre for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers, operating with the generous support of AHF Europe from 2022, providing free, rapid and anonymous HIV testing, sexual health counselling in 9 languages and linkage to health facilities.
The centre is called upon to fill the gap in the needs of mobile populations as they arise from the field where we have been active for many years in terms of sexual health prevention and promotion. The significant difficulties faced by mobile populations in accessing health services (prevention, screening and linkage to health units) and the lack of modern, inclusive sexual health information materials in their language created the need to intervene with a new initiative that responds to the needs of the communities. Ref Checkpoint aims to provide accessibility to free screening and counselling – without stigma and discrimination.
Screening, information, counselling and liaison services are provided in 9 languages: Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, Dari, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and English. The team of counsellors is made up of members of the communities we address and serve each person in their native language, in a friendly environment in the centre of Athens
